1001 spikes torrent reddit1/9/2024 Very gratified to see there's so much interest here. Oh, and here's a checkable version of the list if you want to see how you've done: Įdit: Holy shit this did blow up. You'll often be surprised by the movies you wind up loving.Īnyway, if this gets any interest then by all means ask me what you want to ask. I discovered a lot of great movies that I would never have discovered if I hadn't forced myself to complete the list. The reason is because you need people to push you past your comfort zone to try out things you normally wouldn't try otherwise. The editors of the list went to great lengths to ensure the list covered as much of the length and breadth of the cinematic world as they possibly could and as I was finishing up I realized that going through the list had given me about the best film education you could hope for without actually getting a degree in film and I discovered a lot of great movies that I probably never would have come across otherwise (and don't assume that because some of the movies are obscure and hard to find that it's because they aren't valuable or worth your time - a lot of the movies on the list that are unavailable are unavailable because of licensing issues or legal disputes, not because they're not valuable).Ī lot of my friends have known for awhile that I was working on this and a lot of them kept asking me why I was letting someone else dictate to me what I should watch. I really had to scrounge the depths of the internet to find all of them but eventually I managed to turn every one of them up. ![]() I don't like pirating films but there are a lot of movies on the list that there is literally no other way to get a hold of (as in movies that have never even been released on VHS, let alone DVD) and even the torrent sites failed me on a few of them (if there's anything I've learned in the last couple of years it's that pirating films is only easier if you're after mainstream films). Trying to find every single one was insanely difficult. I started actively tracking down movies on the list that I hadn't seen. Then I decided to dedicate myself a little more seriously to it. When I first started checking titles off I'd seen about three hundred of them but slowly the number rose until after about six, seven years I had crossed seven hundred titles. ![]() I found a checkable version of the list online and would periodically update to see how I was doing. Still, for a long time I didn't really actively focus on the list, I just kept watching the movies I wanted to watch anyway. I've always had an ambition to try to watch as many important classic and arthouse films as I can and if you have a similar ambition then the list really isn't as daunting as you might think. I first got the idea about 9-10 years ago after coming across the book and realizing that I'd already seen a surprising number of them and that a lot of the movies on the list that I hadn't seen were movies that I'd been meaning to watch anyway. Since, as I'm writing this, I have no idea if anyone is going to care, I thought I'd just say a couple quick things about why I did it and what I got out of it and if anyone has any questions about it I'll try to answer them. ![]() I spent a good chunk of my day yesterday watching the seven hour Hungarian film Satantango, which was the last film I had to check off on the 1001 Films You Must See Before You Die list, completing a several year journey.
